The name "sembleWare" was first used in 1997 as the codename for a development productivity tool used internally by Visual Basic software development company Objecutive, Inc. (then known as MCK Systems). In January 2003, the R&D team officially formed a separate division with its own branding. sembleWare is a wholly owned business unit having the aim of introducing a new product to the market.

As the name implies, sembleWare's mission is the realization of a goal which the industry has long been striving for - true assembly of business applications from reusable business components, with the minimum of program-coding required. sembleWare has pioneered an innovate implementation of a software component, called a "Part", which is a business-level piece of a system, such as an Invoice, a Customer or the like, which can be easily "snapped" in or out of an application.
